every girl needs the key pieces.
a friend once asked me before she moved to D.C. to give her a list of must-have articles of clothing for city living. unfortunately, here it is. belatedly.
1. dark wash denim
every girl need a pair of go-to, dark wash jeans. instantly slimming. option to dress them up. pair with a white v-neck & flats during the day. and then throw on a boyfriend blazer & ankle booties for a seamless switch to a night look.
i prefer skinny jeans. but i also love my high-waisted, trouser jeans (TopShop).
2. structured blazer
a blazer can transform an outfit from day to night or casual to work.
it can go over dresses, blouses, t-shirts and pretty much everything else. its an investment that can go to a party or to work. great paired with long or many necklaces. so go ahead and splurge on this one!
3. black pumps and/or black ankle boots
every girl needs a pair of black heels. for cooler weather, i switch to ankle boots. perfect for dresses, skinny jeans, great with tights!
(note: i can’t wait ’til fall!)

4. ballet flats
now this is where i get serious. i don’t mess around with my flats. they must be comfy. they must be very flat. they must be awesome.
5. cross-body bag
there’s nothing worse than a sore shoulder after a day of lugging around a shoulder bag. or your bag swinging down when you bend down to… tie your shoe.
this particular bag can has removable straps and can be used as a clutch . i also love a great leather or canvas bag. not to mention…. it cuts down purse clutter!

6. versatile blouse
i generally choose soft, neutral blouses because they can work with so many things. tucked in. left out. with skirts. with jeans. it’s really a piece that never goes dusty in the closet.
7. sheath dress
this piece is just so flattering, easy and elegant. it can go from work to dinner easily. classy, sexy, slimming.
